North West Durham Constituency Labour Party (CLP) is your local Labour Party based on your constituency and it’s a hub of activity and community organising. Via your CLP, you can choose the members from your area to represent you at Annual Conference and you can help select your parliamentary and council candidates. You can also get involved with contributing to the development of policies and promoting current Labour policies in campaigning activities.

How we work

  • Labour North – Labour North is the body of the party which co-ordinates the party across a regional basis. The North region includes Durham, Tyne & Wear, Northumberland, Tees Valley, Cleveland and Cumbria. The work of Labour North is carried out by paid staff answerable to the NEC and General Secretary.  The democratic structure and policy making of Labour North is conducted by a biannually regional conference to which we send delegates to and a regional board elected by the regional conference.  Our current representatives on the Regional Board are Sheila Williams and Chris Turner, both from City of Durham CLP
  • NEC – The National Executive Committee (NEC), runs the Labour Party between conferences.  It is made up of around 30 members from a range of sections and nations of the party.  Information about members can be found on the follow link – https://labour.org.uk/about/how-we-work/national-executive-committee/whos-on-the-nec/
  • NPF – The National Policy Forum (NPF), helps prepare policy for agreement by Conference.  Representatives are elected at the beginning of each cycle of policy review by all members.  In North Region, we have six representatives: Clare Williams, Mary Foy, Denise Robson, Harry Cross, Lewis Atkinson, Linda Hobson and Simon Henig. All members have the chance to contribute to the National Policy Forum through its website and other consultations.
  • Annual Conference – This is where the Labour Party agrees their rules and policy.  Each CLP has a vote at conference and can send delegates to vote and represent their views on policy making decisions.
